North Sligo Senior Athletes Run Well In Roscommon

Two teams of North Sligo athletes travelled to Roscommon racecourse on Sunday last for the last leg of the Connacht cross-country seniors league. Weather conditions took a turn for the worst about a half hour before the women's race started. Heavy rain persisted right through the women's and men's senior races, the course stood up well to the heavy pounding but got a bit sticky towards the end.

Craig Brennan made a welcome return to the team after his Dublin marathon journey 2 weeks ago, Brennan produced a very good effort to finish 5th, Eamon Murphy had hardly time to let his engine cool down from his huge effort the previous day in the master international in Santry, Murphy produced another fine effort to finish 6th, Alan Wallace also returned to the team after his marathon journey in Dublin, his fine effort saw him finish 13th, Tommy Kelly had another strong run to finish 15th and put his team in 1st position in this leg with 39pts Sligo was just one point behind with 40pts with Castlegar, Boyle, and Swinford following them. Leo Donlon put in another battling performance to finish 33rd.

In the women's race Valeria Petrova led the North Sligo AC team home with another fine effort to finish 6th, Marita McMorrow showed glimpses of her undoubted ability when finishing 7th, Aisling Van Rensburg continue to get fitter and improves with each race to finish 10th and Trish Lee put her team into 2nd position with her fine 13th place finish to give her team 36pts with Sligo AC 1st with 23 pts with Mayo AC and Swinford 60pts and 80 pts respectively. Alison O Sullivan should be happy with another solid run in 20th position and Aoife Doran ran strongly to finish 28th.
