North Sligo Athletic Club shines at County Sligo Spring Championships

The County Sligo Spring Championships took place at the Skreen Dromard Athletic track, where North Sligo Athletic Club delivered a series of outstanding performances. A total of 29 athletes represented the club across multiple events, along with six relay teams, all showcasing exceptional talent and determination.


Relay Success


North Sligo AC’s relay teams put in strong performances throughout the day. The Under-14 boys’ team — comprising Oran Dolan, Giuseppe Gilroy, Ronan Schmidmeier, and Dylan Henry — secured an impressive 2nd place finish, while the Under-11 boys’ team of Ryan Kerr, Kyle Cunningham, Donnacha Dolan, and Donnacha O’Brien battled hard to claim 3rd place.


Both the Under-12 and Under-14 girls’ relay teams dominated their races. The Under-14 girls’ team of Ciara Schmidthimer, Lily Secondino, Chloe McNamara, and Naoise O’Brien stormed to victory, showcasing exceptional speed and teamwork. Meanwhile, the Under-12 girls’ team was in a league of their own, finishing well ahead of the competition. Paige McNamara got them off to a strong start, followed by LilyRose, then Ceola, with Croia O’Dowd powering through on the final lap to secure a commanding win.


North Sligo AC had two Under-11 boys’ relay teams competing, with all athletes giving it their all and showcasing fantastic effort and spirit.


Field Events & Individual Performances


The club also saw success in the field events, with Oran Dolan taking home gold in the shot put and Ronan Schmidtmeier securing silver. Hannah Waters and Lucas Herity also impressed in the shot put, earning well-deserved medals for their efforts.


Several athletes stood out with exceptional individual performances. Ciara Schmidtmeier (U14) had a flawless day, winning all her events—including the 60m, long jump, shot put, and relay—highlighting her dominance across multiple disciplines. Paige McNamara (U12) also delivered a stellar performance, securing 1st place in the 60m, relay, and long jump, while adding a 3rd-place finish in the 600m. Her sister, Chloe McNamara (U13), showcased her speed by finishing 2nd in the 60m and playing a crucial role in her relay team’s victory.


In the U12 girls’ 600m, North Sligo AC completed a clean sweep of the podium. Croia O’Dowd led the race from the start to secure 1st place, followed closely by Ceola Scanlon in 2nd and Paige McNamara in 3rd.


A Proud Day for North Sligo AC


It was an incredible day for North Sligo Athletic Club, with strong performances across all age groups. The dedication and hard work of both the athletes and their coaches were evident throughout the competition. Congratulations to all who competed and represented the club with pride!
