The annual North Sligo AC Superstars competition took place on Sunday last in Grange on the track and in the North Sligo Sports Centre. When the first competition started in 1983 little did Michael Roper who put up the Perpetual Cup realise that this event would still be as popular as ever forty two years later.
Seventy eight athletes battled it out over 6 events in over three and a half hours of practically none stop action to test their speed, stamina, strength and agility. Chairperson Niall Canning spoke to the parents and children at the presentation, he thanked them for their participation, their enthusiasm and boundless energy which could if they listen to their coaches get them to represent their country in the Olympics like our club member Chris O'Donnell. He said this will hopefully be a very important year in the clubs history, when if all goes to plan we will have a new tartan track in Grange later in 2025. He said he would like to thank all those who were helping to make it happen ,he thanked especially Eamon McAndrew for his unbridled enthusiasm and work on the project. Mr Canning congratulated all the age group winners but said there could only be one overall winner of the Perpetual Cup. He said he was delighted to announce that Paige McNamara was the North Sligo AC Superstar of 2025 with a tremendous score of 57 points out of a possible 60.
