There was a great turnout for the Carney 10k and Half Marathon races which were held on Easter Monday last.
Féidhlim McGowan the Sligo marathon record holder with a 2 hrs 22 min clocking from the Valentina marathon in Spain some time ago was in top-class form in this 10k race, only the Thursday before the race he set a new PB for 5k of 14 min 56 sec in Kilkenny, the fleet-footed thirty one year old came across the finish line in Carney in a fast time of 32 min 10 secs. McGowan, who is running in the London marathon on Sunday 23rd April should benefit from this fast outing and if all goes well could lower his existing marathon record further. One of the club's newest members Brian Lydon clocked 39 min 50 sec, Linda Lally 45 min 15 sec, Jason Duffy 46 min 37 sec, Fiona Lenehan 52 min 55 sec, and Michele Lally 56 min.
Donal Egan showed that he is in good form when he controlled a large field of runners and came away victories in a fine time of 1 hr 16 min 6 sec, Egan seems to be improving with age as he has lowered most of his PBs in the past 2 years including a very good marathon run 6 weeks ago when he lowered his PB to 2 hrs 38 mins. Alan Travers ran 1 hr 26 min to finish 8th, Aisling Van Rensburg 1 hr 36 min 54 sec, Alison O Sullivan 1 hr 46 min 49 sec, Marie Foran 1 hr 51 min 12 sec, and Clodagh Quinn 2 hr 1 min.
