A beautiful dry calm morning greeted the over twenty thousand runners who faced the starter for this year's Dublin City Marathon which incorporated the AAI national marathon championship North Sligo AC had five runners taking part in this very well supported event through the streets of Dublin and its suburbs.
Fiona Hennigan ran a superb race, the tall elegant 42 year old runner went through the halfway point in just over one hour 30 minutes. She put the boot down in the 2nd half to run it in 1 hour and just over 27 minutes. She came through the finish line in 2 hrs 57 min 45 secs for a new women's club record. Fiona took almost 10 minutes off the old club record of 3 hrs 7 min 42 sec which was set by Aisling Van Rensburg back in 2015.
Alan Wallace broke through the 3 hr barrier after several years of trying with a massive PB of 2 hrs 53 min 57 secs, the Cliffoney native who at 51 years old had one of his best ever performances in the club vest.
Donal Egan ran just over 3 hrs as a test run for the Valencia Marathon in Spain on December 1st where he hopes to go much faster.
Marie McDonald in her first journey over the marathon distance put in very good performance. The determined clubs little athletics coach overcame a dodgy stomach in the latter stages of the race to record a good time of 3 hrs 27 mins.
Louise O Connor also on her first trip over the marathon distance, she overcame lots of challenges and injuries to be on the starting line. She showed great resilience and toughness to come through the finish in 3 hrs 54 min.
Aoibheann O'Connor was facing the marathon challenge for the first time, the Mullaghmore resident dug deep into her reserves to finisher maiden marathon in 4 hrs 45 mins.
