There was a record turnout for the 5k which was held in Grange on Good Friday. Participants from Donegal to Cork were among the wide array of walkers joggers and runners and family groups the took part in this fundraiser for Medicine Sans Frontiers [Doctors Without Borders].
Seventeen year old Shay Davis was the popular winner of this race in a big new PB for him of 17 min 6 secs, the Grange youngster has shown steady improvement this past few years and this was one of his best performances to date, Féidhlim McGowan just on his way back from an Achilles tendon injury had his first race in over 6 months and finished 2nd in 17 min 14 secs, Niall Canning continues to impress and set another PB when finishing 3rd in 17 min 18 sec chopping almost 30 secs off his previous best.
Mari Johnson was a very impressive winner of the women's section in a fast time of 19 mins 22 secs, the 56 year old Sligo woman continues to produce great performances. Valeriia Petrova had a fine run to get 2nd spot in 20 min 19 secs and Fiona Hennigan finished 3rd in 20 mins 26 secs.
The North Sligo athletic club would like to thank all those who took par, Supervalu who sponsored the event, stewards who marshaled the race, staff who managed the entries and all the kitchen staff who made tea for the masses.
Over 2500 euro has been raised for the charity so far and we would like to thank everyone who made that possible.
