The Maugherow 10k took place in brilliant sunshine on Saturday evening last on a scenic route which included the beautiful Raughley harbour. With temperatures sizzling in the 20 plus degrees it was not ideal conditions for this challenging 10k race on this undulating but beautiful course Donal Egan the inform North Sligo AC runner was a convincing winner of this race, his finishing time of 37 min 15 secs may not have been earth shattering but in the hot difficult conditions it was very respectable, his clubmate Alan Wallace showed good tenacity as he finished strongly in 2nd position in 37 min 41 sec, Kevin Jennings took the 3rd spot in 38 min 20 sec. Peter Gallagher NS won the over 40 category from David Ahern Ballinmore. Tommy Kelly NS won the over 50 section from Raymond Clark, and Race organizer Jimmy Currid won the over 60 category. A delighted Valeria Petrova from Ukraine running with North Sligo AC won the women's race, this upbeat young woman showed great strength over the final uphill section finishing strongly in 42 min 44 sec, her clubmate Trish Lee ran a fine race to finish 2nd in 43 min 38 sec with Muriel Moran finishing 3 rd in 44 min 1 sec. Sinead Foley and Aisling Cawley took 1st and 2nd prizes in the over 40 section. Mary Gilmartin and Aisling Layden took first and second in the over 50 category 49 min 10 sec and 49 min 26 sec respectively. North Sligo AC won the men's and women's team prizes, Donal Egan, Alan Wallace, Peter Gallagher, and Tommy Kelly combined to win the men's award. Valeria Petrova, Trish Lee, Mary Gilmartin and Fiona Lenehan combined to win the women's award.
